The Silver Spring resident bought the $10 quick-pick ticket for the Saturday, March 30 drawing and matched of three numbers and the Powerball, winning the third-tier $50,000 prize.

He wasn’t sure how much he’d won at first — so he went right back to a lottery retailer to check.

“When I went back to look, I realized that I had four numbers and the Powerball,” he told lottery officials.

The winning Powerball numbers for the March 30 drawing were 12, 13, 33, 50 and 52 with a Powerball of 23. “Holiday Luck” had a 9 instead of the winning number of 50.

The winning ticket was purchased at Long Branch Beer & Wine at 649 University Boulevard East in Silver Spring.

‘Holiday Luck,’ a hotel worker, says he’ll use the winnings to pay bills and keep playing Powerball when the jackpot creeps up.

“It was exciting,” he said. “It is always fun when you win.”

The estimated jackpot annuity for the Wednesday, April 3 drawing is $1.09 billion with an estimated pre-tax cash value of $527.3 million.
